On April 1st, MSA held a Pasar Malam themed Food Festival. More than 200 people from across the campus came to our event to try out Malaysian food!

We managed to put together a team of volunteers who helped with the cooking and the event setup. We would like to thank our volunteers for your hard work and effort in making this event a success! Thank you to everyone who came! We had a blast hanging out with all of you and hope that you had a great time as well!

Chinese New Year, also known as the "Spring Festival" in modern Mainland China is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. This year, MSA celebrated Chinese New Year with more than 90 Malaysian and non-Malaysian friends!

For the event, we compiled a CNY dance video, choreographed by Alia Helina. This short 2 minute video shows different clips of us Malaysians dancing to CNY themed song. During this event, we had people nominate for best dressed male and female. Rina won the female best dressed category and Ming was announced to be the winner for the male category. Both of them received Chipotle gift cards!

It is never too late for Deepavali! Although MSA celebrated the festival of light this year a week later than the actual celebration, we were not short of excitement and festivity! Kuhan Anandan and Sandhiya Karunagaran (picture above, don't they just look lovely?) were the MCs for this event. The event started off with Kuhan and Sandhiya giving a brief introduction of the history of Deepavali. We also had a Bollywood quiz sessions afterwards, where winners were given out candies.

The first performance for this event is from "baby badgers", who danced to Jai Ho (video on Facebook). We're all very delighted to have supportive and outgoing juniors! Thank you guys! The second performance started with traditional Indian dance by Sandhiya and Abby whose dance moves are guaranteed to have your mind blown. They were then joined by Dania, Aaron, Syafiqa, and Zhi Xuan and we have to admit, this is probably one of the best MSA performances ever!

Towards the end, we gave out prizes to lucky draw winners and had a (or maybe a couple extras) group photo taken. Overall, the event went smoothly. MSA would like to thank Kuhan and Sandhiya for doing a great job as MCs, all the dancers and everyone who were present to celebrate Deepavali with us. You guys are the best!

MSA hosted the annual MSA Amazing Race event on October 22nd 2016. Six groups of two participants each competed in this challenging, nerve-wrecking race!
The first place winner won a wacky helipcopter ride, fully funded by Malaysian Student Association. Second and third places received $25 Amazon and $15 Starbucks gift cards respectively for each person. Buddies who signed up (applicable for the buddy program), received $2 off each person's fees. As always, this was done to promote MSA buddy program!

1st Place : Sonia & Emanuel
2nd Place : Brandon & Hariz
3rd Place : Syaza & Lisa

Congratulations to all the winners for MSA Amazing Race 2016!! We hope you enjoy your helicopter ride!

On October 2nd 2016, The Malaysian Student Association organised an ice cream social event where everyone could enjoy eating ice cream while having a chat with other people. This event served as a great opportunity to get to know MSA or non-MSA friends, and share experiences living in Madison. Those who were in the MSA 2016 Buddy Program was given free ice cream, fully sponsored by MSA! This was done to encourage buddy meet ups, because we want our buddies to be buddies!

On September 16th, MSA 2016 held our first event of the 2016/17 academic year - MSA Malaysia Day X Kickoff 2016 to introduce the new MSA committee members. We organised icebreaker games as a platform for the new MSA members to get to know the current ones. MSA president, Rhonda Tan, gave an 'introductory' speech. Vice president, Daniel Lee Davin was the Master of Ceremony for this event. Also, in conjunction with Malaysia Day, we had a Malaysian themed kick off event with performance by Syafina Sulaiman and Ainaa Najihah.
Food was definitely served and everyone had a great time!

SIGN UP NOW TO BE A BUDDY!

The MSA Buddy Program is one of the highlight for Malaysian students in UW Madison, especially for incoming students. This program pairs current UW Madison students with incoming freshmen to aid with the transition from school/college life to university life.

For incoming students, this program provides a mentor as a guide to survive life in UW Madison be it academically or socially. Your 'big buddy' can give advises on how to arrange class schedule, chooses classes, buy reasonably priced textbooks or even give you tips on how to make new friends! Additionally, you can ask for transportation and travel tips!

Interested? Click on the link to sign up now!

For current students, this is the perfect chance for you to give back to the society! This program allows you to help out a fellow student in need. Apart from being a mentor, you will also get the chance to build a lasting friendship with your 'small buddy'. Take your buddy out for a walk near Lake Mendota or try out Badger Ice Cream together. This is the perfect chance for you to volunteer for something fun!

CONGRATULATIONS !

During the MSA Graduation Night, the results for the recent MSA 2016/17 Elections were finally released. We are proud to announce the new elected committee for 2016/2017 academic year!
